It has been brought to AfA’s attention that a new Horse Racing Centre is part of development plans for the Vietnamese city of Da Nang. Spanning 300 hectares, the facility and its associated farm will cost around $200 million USD.

It is clear that the powers involved in making these plans have no regard for the welfare of the countless horses which would ultimately fill the farm and track. And this attitude that horses are free for humans to use as units of profit or entertainment is easily passed on to gamblers and spectators alike.
However, much research exists to show that the horse racing industry is unequivocally cruel. For example, the Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses website is full of resources and information about the behind-the-scenes reality of the horse racing industry.
Therefore, the Asia for Animals Coalition has brought together 160 expert animal welfare organisations from around the world to co-sign our letter addressed to the President of the People’s Committee of Da Nang City to enlighten him and his colleagues to these realities and urge him not to grant permission for this facility’s construction.
